From Smart Devices to Intelligent Spaces: Designing Human Control

Part of Portugal Tech Week 2026 at the PTW Palace — Room 1, Ground Floor (cross-track: Technology + Society).

Gonçalo Melo de Magalhães, founder of Planta Smart Homes (https://www.plantasmarthomes.com/), will lead a practical session on turning fragmented sensor data into spatial decisions that people can understand and approve. Using a clearly labelled simulated scenario, participants will map sensing, context, proposed action, human approval and verification. They will leave with a pilot-design checklist covering data quality, safety boundaries and measurable usefulness.

What you'll take away:

• A clear distinction between device automation and contextual spatial intelligence

• A worked example of the sensing-to-verification loop

• A one-page pilot checklist covering required data, human approval, failure conditions and measurable operator value

Who it's for: founders, developers, architects, interaction designers and building or industrial operators exploring AI in physical spaces. No specialist AI knowledge required.

Free entry, limited to 50 seats.
